Smurfit Kappa sponsors prestigious international wine competition
Smurfit Kappa Bag-in-Box is proud to renew its sponsorship of the Concours International Best Wine in Box which is dedicated to recognising the highest quality Bag-in-Box® wines from around the world.
The competition, which was the first of its kind to focus on boxed wines, evaluates entries on a variety of criteria including aroma, taste, texture, balance, and overall quality.
Bag-in-Box® wines have enjoyed steady growth in popularity over the last decade with both wineries and grocery stores increasing the number of Bag-in-Box® wines on their shelves. The reduced carbon footprint, along with longer shelf life and increased durability, makes them an attractive alternative to the traditional glass bottle.
Speaking about the competition, Thierry Minaud, CEO of Smurfit Kappa Bag-in-Box, said: “ We are delighted to have been involved with this competition since the very beginning. The number of fine wines now available in Bag-in-Box® packaging is growing all the time and they deserve their place at the table.

The competition kicks off on March 28th when a judging panel comprised of leading industry experts, including oenologists will meet in Toulouse, France for the blind tasting. Out of the almost 400 wines registered, only the best will have the opportunity to add the coveted ‘Best Wine in Box’ golden stamp on their package.
The winners will also have a chance to compete in the follow-up “Best Dressed Wine” and “Eco-design” contests which will take place later this year and involve recycling expert Adelphe for the latest.
