How standardising Dialight's packaging reduced costs by $41,000 per year

The Challenge
Dialight, a world leader in Industrial lighting technology required high performance packaging for their LED products that weigh over 25lbs. Reducing the various types of inserts used in their packaging would optimise warehouse space and also solve the production line bottle neck caused by their long assembly line. They were also looking to eradicate 30% of unsustainable packaging.

The Approach
Smurfit Kappa worked closely with Dialight to develop an optimised paper-based Honeycomb solution. The standardised insert was designed to fit as many of the LED lamps as possible and is quick and easy to assemble. It stands up to all of the required testing for complete product protection throughout the supply chain.

The Result
The Smurfit Kappa Honeycomb solution delivers against all of Dialight’s objectives.  It is fully recyclable and 100% sustainable avoiding any waste into landfill and minimising their carbon footprint. It greatly reduces the amount of SKU’s required which in turn reduces inventory and optimises space in the warehouse giving them a saving of over 40k USD.
