Smurfit Kappa Italy receives Giuseppe Lazzareschi Foundation safety award for second year running

Smurfit Kappa Italy's Lunata plant has been awarded for the second year running for its commitment to Health & Safety by the prestigious Giuseppe Lazzareschi Foundation.

The award recognises the Lunata team's success in reaching the lowest injury severity and frequency rates in 2014 among its peers in the paper and cardboard sectors.

It also rewards Smurfit Kappa Italy for its successful adoption of "Famiglia Sicura", a programme that promotes Health & Safety risk awareness in the home environment. In 2014, this programme was rolled out to all plants in Smurfit Kappa Italy as part of the country's Health & Safety Day activities.

"These awards underscore Smurfit Kappa's commitment to health and safety and reward the efforts made by the Italian team to design and implement these successful projects," said Kieran McKenna, Group Director Health & Safety.

"We are witnessing more and more across the wider company that engaging the families of workers in safety campaigns unlocks a commitment to take greater care in the workplace. Congratulations to all at Smurfit Kappa Italy who contributed to this success," he added.

The Giuseppe Lazzareschi Foundation was established by the Lazzareschi family, owners of the Sofidel Group,  a  leader in tissue paper. The objective of this annual ceremony is to spread a culture of safety by rewarding companies that improve their Health & Safety performance.
