SUCCESS STORY

Cultipalta reduces supply chain emissions by up to 32% through packaging and logistics optimization

The Challenge
Cultipalta needed to improve the efficiency and sustainability of its avocado and mango supply chain without compromising product quality. Existing packaging and logistics processes limited pallet utilization, warehouse efficiency, and transportation performance. The company also sought to reduce operational costs, improve load stability, minimize handling incidents, and extend the shelf life of its products while lowering its environmental impact.

The Approach
Smurfit Westrock conducted a comprehensive review of Cultipalta’s packaging, warehousing and transport operations. The team introduced new corrugated tray formats engineered to better withstand operational demands while maximizing pallet capacity. Improvements were also made to loading configurations, palletizing patterns, and strapping systems to increase load stability and reduce the risk of damage during handling and transit.

The Result
By fitting more trays on each pallet, Cultipalta reduced the number of pallets needed for transportation and storage, lowering packaging and shipping costs. Improved pallet stability and warehouse use boosted operational performance, while better product protection extended the shelf life of avocados and mangoes. The new packaging and logistics model also cut transportation- and storage-related emissions by up to 32%, supporting a more sustainable supply chain.
