Smurfit Kappa wins two prestigious Scanstar 2016 packaging awards
Smurfit Kappa in Norway and Denmark have both won a Scanstar 2016 Packaging Award – awards which are organised by the Scandinavian Packaging Association (SPA), a body incorporating the national packaging organisations of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden.
Smurfit Kappa Denmark was awarded its Scanstar for new and improved transport packaging for sheets of bended aluminium, on behalf of waterproofing company Icopal. Rather than a traditional square box, the new box has been designed at an angle around the primary product, yet still maintains the same level of protection. This new design however uses 24% less board reducing material costs and provides significant supply chain benefits by allowing the customer to transport 8 packs per pallet instead of 4, achieving a 100% improvement in palletisation.
Smurfit Kappa Norway was awarded the Scanstar on behalf of Scandinavian Business Systems, for the winning design of a corrugated inlay which forms part of a transport pack for chairs and replaces polystyrene. The new inlay is 100% recyclable and made from a renewable resource making it a more sustainable solution. The whole pack is now made from a single material and can be quickly and easily recycled by the end user. In addition, the environmental benefits have also resulted in cost and space savings.
Pim Wareman, CEO Corrugated North East Europe, said: “We are delighted to have received Scanstar awards in two of our key markets, furthered by the knowledge that we are the only manufacturing company to do so.”
Ole Moller Hansen, CEO Nordic West, added: “These awards are recognition of our commitment to developing creative, sustainable solutions that meet the needs of our customers.”
The Scanstar 2016 Packaging Award Ceremony will take place in Sandefjord on the 3 November 2016.
