Our journey towards workplace inclusivity
Smurfit Kappa wants to create a global workforce where all people are equal and where EveryOne can belong and thrive regardless of their sexual orientation, gender, identity, or expression.
To help us achieve this ambition, Smurfit Kappa has become a member of Workplace Pride, a not-for-profit foundation dedicated to improving the lives of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ+) people in workplaces worldwide.
Membership of Workplace Pride will provide Smurfit Kappa with access to knowledge, research, training, and new connections. We will also become a participant of the Workplace Pride Global Benchmark, allowing us to measure LGBTQ+ policies and practices for internationally active employers.
This investment follows on from Smurfit Kappa joining the Declaration of Amsterdam by Workplace Pride in 2021. The declaration is built upon 10 foundations which aim to support companies and society to create a more inclusive and safer environment for LGBTQ+ people all around the world.

Since the signing of the Declaration of Amsterdam, we have built a strong LGBTQ+ Ally network with over 100 colleagues raising their hands and volunteering their time as allies. We want to grow this community further with effective and powerful voices to support our LGBTQ+ community. Allies help community members, while educating others on the importance of equality, fairness, acceptance, and mutual respect.
Within our ever-growing LGBTQ+ Ally network, we have created four teams who are focusing on the following areas:
- Building partnerships
- Sharing best practices
- Benchmarking policies and procedures
- Development of ‘Free to be me’ content hub
Membership of Workplace Pride along with our LGBTQ+ Ally network are just a few of the ways that Smurfit Kappa is supporting the journey towards workplace inclusivity.
