Helping online supermarket 'crisp' to optimise its grocery packing line and delivery

The Challenge
Netherlands based online supermarket 'crisp' enables consumers to easily order groceries. The company has grown rapidly in a short period of time and, whilst they have always used cardboard boxes, their internal processes have changed. Crisp needed a new packaging solution that fits their order packing process, makes delivery easier and meets the requirements of their unique unboxing experience.

The Approach

Working collaboratively, we went through several test phases before delivering a packaging solution which contained several small innovations. Whilst at first glance the box remained unchanged, the new packaging solution improve efficiencies in the order picking process, increased the resilience of the carry handles to bear increased weights and added clever folds to make it easier to recycle.

The Result

Crisp were thrilled with the outcome, with their operational manager Justin Koekenbier commenting "it's the small innovations, devised by Smurfit Kappa, that made the difference." The end result was a sustainable packaging solution, in line with the Crisp branding, with sturdy handles making for an easier delivery and improved consumer perception as the pack was much easier to fold for recycling.
