From foam to fiber: Helping Jeka Fish transform its frozen cod packaging

The Challenge

Jeka Fish aimed to reduce reliance on EPS packaging by introducing a paper-based alternative for selected products. For its lightly salted cod in 11 kg and 25 kg formats, the packaging needed to perform under demanding conditions, including frozen storage for up to 1.5 years, moisture and water exposure, and transport across Europe. The new solution was also required to protect the product while offering stronger branding than traditional EPS packaging.

The Approach
Our expert team developed a solid board packaging solution specifically engineered for frozen seafood. Solid board was chosen for its exceptional strength, durability, and resistance to moisture and freezing conditions. This paper‑based solution delivers the structural performance required for long‑term frozen storage and long‑distance transport, while its high‑quality printable surface enables impactful branding and clear product communication.
The Result
Jeka Fish successfully replaced EPS packaging across this product range with a recyclable solid board solution. The boxes deliver reliable protection throughout extended frozen storage and long‑distance transport across Europe.
