The jury of this yearʹs Goldene Welle (Golden Flute) innovation awards in Germany has announced its verdict. In performance group 1, which deals with the design characteristics of transport packaging, Smurfit Kappa‘s Care bottle packaging was a convincing winner.
In its announcement, the jury had special praise for the ease of use, the floating suspension in the package, the good security provided by the automatic base and the excellent fixation of the flaps. It also drew attention to the expansion capability of the design for larger bottles.
The Care bottle packaging has an integrated self-adjusting pad. The packaging and padding are accurately glued to one another and delivered flat. The one-piece packaging is extremely easy to handle.
When the bottle packaging is unfolded, the inner pad at the bottom expands first. The bottle is inserted, the collar rim of the pad is pressed against the shoulder of the bottle and the lid is then closed. The bottle is thus securely fixed and floats within the protected enclosure of the outer packaging.
The handling time is reduced by 50% in comparison to similar solutions. The material savings are 20%. Thanks to the one-piece delivery, there is an additional 5% savings in logistics.

The Care bottle packaging is patent protected, tested by DHL and approved by DHL Shipping for Bordeaux, Schlegel and Sekt bottles.
