Project Manager Sourcing
You might think that even in the manufacturing industry there are 'sexier' companies to work for, but remember that Smurfit Kappa helps these businesses enable their success.
Why did I join Smurfit Kappa?
Look around when you are in the supermarket and you will find displays, shelf ready packaging, and high quality printed packaging by Smurfit Kappa. This packaging supports point of sale, protects, and promotes products of major brands. Smurfit Kappa is able to make the difference because of our people: smart, hardworking, down to earth and enthusiastic. Moreover, the scale and international orientation of the company give plenty of development opportunities.
My career path with the company
I joined the company on a college work placement in 2004. In 2006 I became Operation Excellence Coordinator with the European Corrugated Division. Then in 2008 I moved to the World Headquarters as a Corporate Planner. Since last year I have been with the corrugated office in Benelux in the role of Project Manager Sourcing.
What has been the most rewarding experience at Smurfit Kappa?
I remember that just after graduating many of my friends aspired to work abroad. I was the first to be offered the opportunity to do so and went to work for two and a half years at SK World HQ in Dublin. This was a great experience. Obviously, it goes without saying that the great people I have the pleasure of working with is very rewarding as well.
What does one working week look like?
No work week really is the same. I meet with colleagues to discuss sourcing opportunities, review pallet concepts at plants to look for saving potential, meet suppliers and organise Logistic Managers meetings. I also discuss Benelux strategy options with the Benelux CEO and help translate these into action.
