National Key Account Manager
The AMD program was very rewarding - it gave me the chance to exchange my views and opinions with senior management on several topics and to increase my skills in disciplines where I had limited experience. The diverse background of the other participants set the conditions for a lot of intense but very fulfilling discussions.
My career path with the company:
I joined the company at the age of 23 as Production Trainee in Mexico. Within a year I moved to another city and took the role of Sales Rep. The following year I moved again to become Quality Manager of a couple of plants. After two and a half years in this role I was offered the position of Process Improvement Manager for Smurfit Kappa Mexico. At the beginning of 2009, I moved to the Development Centre (DC) in the Netherlands as Project Manager. In 2011, I left the DC to start a new role in Sales for SK Spain and Portugal.
My most rewarding experience at Smurfit Kappa:
The opportunity to work in so many different environments and countries and with people of such diverse backgrounds. It really enriches you as an employee and as a person.
What does the future hold?
I recently completed my first year as National Key Account Manager during which I learned a lot about managing big accounts. Now I am concentrating on strengthening relationships with customers, making significant improvements to how we work with them and with our own plants, making our business more profitable and materialising on potential growth opportunities.
What advice would you give someone considering joining Smurfit Kappa?
I believe Smurfit Kappa sooner or later gives you back what you have given, or more. Find the area or position where you feel you can fully harvest your skills, be eager to learn as much as possible and work hard to show what you are capable of. You won’t be disappointed!
