Purchasing Manager, Sweden
It has been very easy to identify my contribution to the company’s overall goal and operations
Why did I join Smurfit Kappa?
I grew up in Piteå and wanted to move back home after some years away after high school for work abroad and studies. Smurfit Kappa is a big, well functioning employer well-reputed for having a good employee policy and it felt like my natural first hand choice. The possibilities both to take on great responsibility and to work on challenging tasks in an international environment attracted me. It was an opportunity to try out a job I felt exciting and inspiring and very suitable for my background with a combined technical and business economics masters degree.
What I am currently working on
I work together with my team on developing into a more modern department where proactive long-term, value adding and cost efficient solutions are key. The Sourcing Department at Smurfit Kappa Kraftliner are independent and advisory. The work shall be carried out in a professional manner, according to consistent laws and rules and with applied ethics. We take the lead of all the commercial processes of the company and my own priorities lies in finding efficient workflows in general, working on negotiation preparation, agreement follow up and development, supplier management and assessment and market analysis for the areas of pulpwood and bio fuel raw material, logistics and energy. This work is combined with purchases of one-time high value investments.
What has been the most rewarding experience at Smurfit Kappa?
Smurfit Kappa provides a positive, learning atmosphere were everyone is willing to help and support you and I quickly received important, meaningful tasks with big responsibilities and it has been very easy to identify my contribution to the company’s overall goal and operations.
The possibilities for personal development are good. Smurfit Kappa is an international group and there are possibilities to broaden your views in more than one way. I get really inspired by and learn a lot by working together with many different nationalities and occupational categories.
During my maternity leave in 2008 and coming back to work, I also experienced the benefits of having a parent friendly company as an employer in which the company understands, respects and also see the benefits of employees to have a life also outside work that includes a family. I felt the support during my leave and also the positive acknowledgement and credit for the new developed skills learnt during my leave when coming back.
What does the future hold?
I am curious by nature and will try to continue to put my knowledge and experiences to the test. For me it is important to cooperate and work together with the rest of the company in order to get the full picture and achieve as good solutions together as possible. It is inspiring to work in close cooperation with nice colleagues that share the same genuine willingness to achieve good results. The important, meaningful tasks will never end, and as long as I feel I can contribute and continue to learn at the same time, I will be motivated.
