At Smurfit Kappa Townsend Hook we are looking beyond environmental compliance and constantly improving our process and the mill performance. Our product is manufactured 100% from recovered fibre and is 100% recyclable. Significant percentage of paper and cardboard recycled in our mill is collected in the local area that reduces miles travelled and contributes to overall carbon footprint reductions.
Mill energy efficiency programme
We have implemented, and are constantly developing a programme to reduce of our carbon emissions is an integral part of this programme. All energy used in the process in generated by an on-site CHP (Combined Heat and Power) Plant. We are actively working with our employees and suppliers on improving our energy performance.
Smurfit Kappa Townsend Hook is located by River Medway that provides a main water resource for our process. Fresh water is used several times by circulation before is discharged back to the river. We placed the water back to the environment after it has been cleaned in our Effluent Treatment Plant.
Our plant operates under the Environment Permit issued by the Environment Agency.
Being active part of the local community is written into our mission statement and business practise. We are actively working with Snodland Partnership on improving local area and get engage in projects contributing to improvement of the local area. We also support a number of local charities.
Health & Safety and Occupational Health Programme
Safety of our employees is a priority at Smurfit Kappa Townsend Hook. We are actively working with our employees on improving working conditions and also recognise positive safety behaviour.
Our employees have a open access to the occupational health services. Our Occupational Health programme compromises activities such as pre- employment health screening, health surveillance of employees and also includes a service ensuring the employees on sick leave are helped to return to work utilising rehabilitation and recovery programme. We take very proactive approach to health issues and preventing illness by supporting training and health promotion.
