Smurfit Kappa Abercarn Host First UK Graduate Day

Content Editor

Smurfit Kappa Abercarn hosts the first UK Graduate Day.

The Smurfit Kappa Graduate Scheme is renowned for its success throughout the business, with many that have completed the process, going on to hold various respected positions throughout the Group.

SK Abercarn, assisted by Tori Bell, Sales Graduate on the current programme, organised the first UK “Graduate Day”, designed to share experiences, ideas and knowledge. It also provided the graduates with a fantastic opportunity to experience firsthand the UK’s specialist XXL/ Heavy Duty operation, along with its large format manufacturing and Litho laminating capabilities.  The graduates were also shown the new branding and digital marketing strategy, which is set to be rolled out during 2016.

The informative day also enabled former graduates, Fiona McMillan and Hamed Ahmed, who now look after eCommerce for the UK business, to give an interesting insight into this exciting and forever developing industry. UK eCommerce has seen substantial growth over the past 5 years with more and more retailers taking advantage of new technologies which complement online selling. They are focusing on streamlining the logistics process for customers and using innovative packaging as a marketing tool to recreate the in-store customer experience at home.

The event in South Wales was very well received, providing those in attendance with an opportunity to network with other graduates from across the UK, and share advice on career aspirations and various placement opportunities. The graduates are all on programmes that involve them moving around the United Kingdom and, in some cases, Europe. This challenging 2-year programme allows young individuals to gain extensive experience across a wide range of business areas, enabling them to go on to achieve fulfilling careers in their chosen disciplines.
