Smurfit Kappa’s innovative metallised MirriNor microflute board developed by its U.K. Sheetfeeding Division in association with Mirri, has scooped the top design award at the first ever Beverage Packing Awards.
The award was given for WoldTop Brewery’s four-bottle gift pack design, which has experienced a healthy 30 percent increase in sales since being one of the first companies to use MirriNor from its launch in 2012.
Championing excellence in the Beverage Packaging Industry, the Pack Design Award recognises innovation in attractively shaped and functioning multipacks and presentation packs that entice the customer.
MirriNor combines the strength, curvability and light weight of Smurfit Kappa’s patented T-Flute microflute corrugated board with a high quality, biodegradable metallic film from Mirri, worldwide leaders in metallic laminated paper and board. The combination of unique substrate and high-quality display finish creates an innovative, premium metallic board product with superior finish, great printability and leading environmental credentials.
Richard Revell, Technical Sales Manager for Smurfit Kappa Sheetfeeding, who has guided the technical development of MirriNor comments: “This award recognises how it is possible to develop new and innovative packaging solutions, in this case using a microflute board that would not traditionally have been regarded as a suitable marketing medium for a premium product presentation. MirriNor effectively turns the beverage packaging industry on its head and offers even artisan and craft customers such as WoldTop Brewery the opportunity to compete with the largest players in the sector, at reasonable cost.”
Richard continues: “MirriNor offers a highly creative solution to shape, form and printed graphics that is now being used by some of the UK’s most talented packaging designers and marketing professionals.”
The Beverage Packing Awards were a part of the second Annual Beverage Packaging Conference, which was held on 29th to 30th October at the Sheraton Hotel, Brussels Airport.
