Smurfit Kappa Chelmsford Best Ever Awards at Prestigious EFIA Ceremony


Smurfit Kappa Chelmsford scooped six awards including three Gold’s at the Prestigious EFIA, European Flexographic Industry Association Awards (previously EFTA Awards), last week on Thursday 31st March in Leeds, and three Highly Commended awards, beating their already enviable track record of EFIA wins in recent years, and reaffirming their position as innovation leaders in the European print market for 2011. 

The Gold Awards were:-

  • Post Print Coated Process category  - Bacardi Breezer Cool Box for Bacardi and Company Ltd
  • Post Print Coated Line-Screen category - Robinson’s Old Tom Ale for Frederick Robinson Ltd
  • Uncoated Line-Screen category for Post Print - Pheby Champagne Wedding Box for Pheby Colour Litho UK

The Gold award winning Breezer Cool Box in the Post Print Coated Process category uses specialist printing techniques and was selected for its novel and practical packaging solution for the transport and storage of bottles of Bacardi’s ready-to-drink rum and fruit flavour beverage, whilst doubling as a cool box when filled with ice. Bacardi Breezer was the first entrant in the ready-to-drink category and is currently the market leader in its segment. Smurfit Kappa Chelmsford’s Highly Commended projects were Marston’s Wychwood Ales 12 pack, and Kleenex Pluswipes Viva.

In the Post Print Coated Line-Screen category, Gold was awarded for Smurfit Kappa Chelmsford’s boxed packaging for Robinson’s Old Tom Ale, with Kerry Foods’ Thai meals printed packaging receiving Highly Commended, both receiving commendation for the technical excellence of their clarity and quality of print. 

In the Uncoated Line-Screen category for Post Print, Smurfit Kappa Chelmsford beat off stiff competition to win Gold for the uniquely designed Pheby Champagne Wedding Box.  This is a trade pack, three-part heirloom box with a Perspex viewing window for the safe and secure storage of wedding dresses.
