Daniel, Colombia

What was your greatest moment of innovation?

My greatest innovation has been a pallet display for mugs that I created for our customer, Loceria Colombiana. For use in large retailers such as Home Center and Exito, the display needed to optimise the retail space available and promote the product to shoppers.

I designed a modular display which was easy to open and allowed the shopper to see the mugs. By attracting the shopper’s attention in-store, we were able to increase sales. The design also uses minimal materials allowing us to minimise costs and also create packing efficiencies for our customer.

What inspired you to come up with the solution?

The main inspiration to create this solution was by truly understanding the needs of our customer for an economical and practical display. Our excellent working relationship allowed us to design and develop a new and innovative display to market their products.

What happened next?

With this design I won first place in the retail ready packaging category at the Smurfit Kappa Latin America Innovation Awards 2011. To me, this demonstrated a real appreciation for my innovative packaging design.
